John Maciolek born February 27, 1913, son of Mrs. Antoinette (Maciolek) Ragion and husband of Mary Ravenola Maciolek of Enfield Connecticut entered service in the U.S. Army on November 11, 1943. He was later sent to overseas to join a combat infantry division. John was wounded in action on July 24, 1944 in the battle of the Arno River crossing near Rome, Italy, while serving with the 91st Infantry Division. He died 4 days later on July 28, 1944 of the wounds he received while in action.
In 1945, the John H. Maciolek Post 154 of American Legion was formed.
